A team of hard-working staff from local McDonald’s stores turned out to help get a neglected area of Great Yarmouth looking ship-shape.
Employees from the Regent Road, Gapton Hall and Great Yarmouth Asda restaurants turned out in force to help Great Yarmouth Council as part of their Safer Street Project, an initiative to improve the condition and cleanliness of areas in the town centre.
The team spent a back-breaking morning clearing several bags of litter and weeding an alleyway behind Peggotty Road Community Centre.
The team included employees from the K Foley McDonald’s franchise which owns 14 McDonald’s restaurants across the East of England.
Staff members Shane Long, Steve Southern, Holly Copping, Sam Copping, Jasmine Antonellou and Catherine Butler were joined by a council representative and local police officers who had arranged the event.
As well as being a council led event, The K Foley Ltd team morning of street-cleaning also came as part of a scheme called Love Where You Live.
The Love Where You Live events began when McDonald’s UK becoming a founding partner of Keep Britain Tidy’s Love Where You Live campaign – a 12-year anti-littering initiative that encourages communities to help tackle litter in their local area.
This is in addition to local activity undertaken by each UK restaurant which see staff patrol the streets three times a day to collect any litter that’s been discarded, regardless of its origin.
K Foley LTD People Manger Shane Long, who also took part, said: “It was a very productive morning and we filled about 12 bags with rubbish and weeds. We also amassed a huge pile of bigger rubbish and debris that we couldn’t put into bags so would be collected later.
“One highlight of the day was meeting a lovely ginger tom cat that kept coming by to see how we were getting on, as well as meeting some of the local residents.”
“We complete these events to help build ties with the community and help upkeep local surroundings. We enjoy the activity and the opportunity to give something back.”
